BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: Black and White Portraits for Every Generation

Creating a successful black and white image is about so much more than just converting it in the post-processing stage. Light, shape, form, texture, tonal range, and countless other elements need to come together if you want to capture a beautiful black and white photograph. Join Dana in a lifestyle suite as she explores the artistic process of visualizing, photographing, and editing monochromatic portraits with three models from different generations. Free yourself artistically as she demonstrates ways you can add interest to your portraits by including movement, using specialty lenses, and more. You'll come out of the session with the ability to add depth to your portfolio with beautiful black and white images.
Attendees will have the opportunity to photograph each model by breaking-up into small shooting groups after Dana’s demonstration. Students are encouraged to bring both a portrait lens and a specialty/creative lens if available and should be comfortable shooting in manual mode.

BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: Confidently Photographing Confident Women

Whether you are the woman in front of the camera or behind it, the female photographic experience can be intimidating. In Chanel's boutique program you will get to watch her as she guides her subjects toward total confidence, using poses and words of affirmation to help the women in front of her camera relax and look amazing. She will also show how she takes control of the shoot to exude that very same confidence from behind the camera.

Chanel will detail how she plans a shoot with intention and a vision, how she styles a woman to look her best in every frame, and how she incorporate props into the session that make sense. In this outdoor boutique session attendees will have the opportunity to shoot alongside Chanel as she demonstrates her techniques. Attendees will then split into smaller groups and assigned their own model where they can take control of posing the models and creating images. You will leave feeling more confident in your abilities and energized to be a positive force for women in the field of photography.

Attendees should be comfortable shooting in manual mode and are encouraged to shoot with their favorite portrait lenses.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn how to direct and pose a subject with intention and how to help the subject relax in front of the camera
- Learn how to feel more confident as a photographer and transfer this confident to your subject
- Learn how to plan a concept for a shoot with a clear vision from beginning to end for an overall cohesive session
- Learn how to successfully incorporate props into a photo session that elevate the narrative of the overall experience

Bring back the drama of Hollywood's golden age and learn the basics of portraits from posing and composition to lighting. Creating a timeless portrait is an art. Go behind the scenes and learn how Kate develops her classic-with-a-twist black and white portraits using both natural and artificial light. Learn light setups and poses that flatter a variety of subjects. Bring your flash and learn about bounced flash, ice lights or continuous light, and even simple window light and how manipulating curtains can dramatically change the final look of the image. Kate will even cover wardrobe and makeup tips!! Learn how to top it off with the perfect black and white edit for a classic, timeless image. For the sake of time, an editing demonstration will not take place live, but Kate will provide an editing video leading up to the conference for you to arrive with any questions and she will send out an additional editing video of an image taken during the boutique.

Attendees will take also home a lighting guide with classic light setups and Kate's custom black and white action for timeless silver screen portraits.

Join fashion and beauty photographer Joyanne Panton for advanced photo retouching in Photoshop. Joyanne believes that our skin texture and imperfections are a part of our story, so she strives to polish the image while retaining the essence of the subject. You'll learn how to use features like frequency separation, dodging and burning, and color toning. Joyanne will shoot live to show you tips and techniques that she uses to cut her retouching time in half. Joyanne will share material outlining her step by step process for each technique so that you too can conquer Photoshop! You will leave with the fundamental tools needed to Photoshop a quality image using high end techniques. Attendees can bring a laptop and follow along during this editing process (this is not required).

Learn to create impactful and inspired self-portraits utilizing styling, light, emotion, and location. Find how you can connect with emotions and illustrate pivotal moments in womanhood to give the viewer an insight into the life you live. Learn to inspire yourself and to recognize that your story is worth telling. During this demonstration, Laura will teach attendees how to recognize everyday moments from life as ""art in progress."" Watch as she guides a mother and child through the self-portrait process: styling the space, selecting clothing and props, and posing within a self-portrait session. You'll learn how to create the feeling that the image is a stolen and candidly captured moment from your own life and story. From setting-up your equipment to allowing moments to naturally unfold, Laura will teach you everything you need to know to create beautiful self portraits with a spirit of spontenaity.

This session will be shot in a Lifestyle Suite using various areas of the space to replicate a home environment. A full understanding of manual mode is a pre-requisite for this course and you may bring along your camera in order to view some of the settings as Laura walks through her process. As a follow up, you will receive a digital E-book which will include everything this program covered.

Sarah will walk you around the property and show you how she tackles outdoor natural light situations and together you will identify a variety of super interesting backgrounds to shoot on. She will talk to you about how to immediately build rapport with your clients because let's be honest most people hate having their photo taken. You'll leave this class feeling empowered to lead a headshot session and you'll feel fully armed with tons of posing advice to help you get truly authentic portraits. You'll never again feel unprepared when a client asks you, "What do I do with my hands?

Light is always the heart of photography, but what do you do if the light you adore is not cooperating? By approaching LED lights in the way she approaches natural light, Caroline came up with a method that makes LED lighting look 100% natural, no matter the time of day or the weather outside. What started as an attempt to get food images in the middle of the night, blossomed into a studio for portraits and still life as well.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn how to create a believable 'window' with LED lighting, anywhere
- Learn why your frustrations with light can be a thing of the past
- Learn how to place your subject and frame your subject to best mimic a natural window scene. images that mimic the use of window light. Lens preference: A medium prime (35-50mm) or a standard zoom (24-70mm) is preferred. Experience shooting in manual is preferred, but the instructor will call out settings for beginners to plug into their cameras

Studio photography doesn't have to be intimidating or expensive! Learn what tools you need to start your own simple studio and how to make timeless images anywhere. From portraits of your children to headshots or even stunning action shots of dancers or athletes, learn how to set up a studio and get the images you want! Kate will cover the basics of studio equipment, how to setup a small (and portable) studio, exposure, and more. Kate will also go over various lighting setups, showing you which are most suited for specific types of photography. Finally, attendees will get their action on and put it all together as you take some breathtaking portraits of dancers in action! Attendees will receive a handout covering lighting setups, an ebook on flash/strobe exposure, as well as a recorded editing video including how Kate extends canvases.
