BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: Black and White Portraits for Every Generation

Creating a successful black and white image is about so much more than just converting it in the post-processing stage. Light, shape, form, texture, tonal range, and countless other elements need to come together if you want to capture a beautiful black and white photograph. Join Dana in a lifestyle suite as she explores the artistic process of visualizing, photographing, and editing monochromatic portraits with three models from different generations. Free yourself artistically as she demonstrates ways you can add interest to your portraits by including movement, using specialty lenses, and more. You'll come out of the session with the ability to add depth to your portfolio with beautiful black and white images.
Attendees will have the opportunity to photograph each model by breaking-up into small shooting groups after Dana’s demonstration. Students are encouraged to bring both a portrait lens and a specialty/creative lens if available and should be comfortable shooting in manual mode.

BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: From Aww to Awe

From the first bites of solid food, to the first soccer games, so many of us start our photography journey because we wanted to capture the cute and memorable moments of our kids' lives. Looking back, these are the images that make us smile and say, "Awww." But what happens when you yearn for something more artistic, aiming for something higher? Learn to move from "awwww" to awe, as Natalie breaks down the components that make a photo sweet AND powerful. She will talk about how to bring the sense of awe into our own photos by making viewers feel our photos. From kids to clients, Natalie will show you how to take you work to the next level. At the end of the presentation, the group will shoot creatively with two young boys (ages 5 and 7). Attendees should have a strong grasp of photography basics and are encouraged to bring their own cameras.

BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: Gather at the Table: Styled Food Photography

Food photography is a wonderful way to stretch creatively while working without time constraints. In this boutique session you'll learn to style and photograph food using natural light and minimal props. Allison will start off with a short discussion about the basics of food photography and jump into a demonstration. You'll see how she creates a styled food photo as she talks through each step and explains all of her decisions, from choosing the background and props to the camera angles and more. You will learn how to choose a background for your food photography, how to style the frame for composition (including tips for using color), how to choose and use props, and how to use natural light effectively. There will also be the opportunity for you to style your own food using backgrounds, props, and food provided or to shoot the setups created by Allison during the demonstrations. It is helpful (but not required) if you have knowledge of shooting in manual mode. This program will take place inside so we can simulate the type of light you'll find in homes and restaurants.

Bring back the drama of Hollywood's golden age and learn the basics of portraits from posing and composition to lighting. Creating a timeless portrait is an art. Go behind the scenes and learn how Kate develops her classic-with-a-twist black and white portraits using both natural and artificial light. Learn light setups and poses that flatter a variety of subjects. Bring your flash and learn about bounced flash, ice lights or continuous light, and even simple window light and how manipulating curtains can dramatically change the final look of the image. Kate will even cover wardrobe and makeup tips!! Learn how to top it off with the perfect black and white edit for a classic, timeless image. For the sake of time, an editing demonstration will not take place live, but Kate will provide an editing video leading up to the conference for you to arrive with any questions and she will send out an additional editing video of an image taken during the boutique.

Attendees will take also home a lighting guide with classic light setups and Kate's custom black and white action for timeless silver screen portraits.

In this boutique attendees will use a newborn doll and learn how to photograph timeless newborn images focused on the baby's personality traits, his tiny size, and the love of his family. Alison will show you how to use simple props, neutral colors and an effective workflow to achieve quick and beautiful sessions. Alison will use a newborn doll to show you how to sooth babies, create a simple and easy workflow, gently pose the baby, and create natural and beautiful imagery. She will talk about parent posing, working with siblings and some of the challenges that come with photographing babies.

Please bring a 50mm or 35mm lens to practice some of the techniques.

Watch as she guides a mother and child through the self-portrait process: styling the space, selecting clothing and props, and posing within a self-portrait session. You'll learn how to create the feeling that the image is a stolen and candidly captured moment from your own life and story. From setting-up your equipment to allowing moments to naturally unfold, Laura will teach you everything you need to know to create beautiful self portraits with a spirit of spontenaity.

This session will be shot in a Lifestyle Suite using various areas of the space to replicate a home environment. A full understanding of manual mode is a pre-requisite for this course and you may bring along your camera in order to view some of the settings as Laura walks through her process. Join Tenley as she shares all of the tips, games, and tricks she's learned in her 10+ years of experience creating expressive portraits of kids of all ages and personalities. This demonstration class will start with a discussion to go over her go-to ideas for each age (hello toddlers and angsty teens!), personality (over-hyper, shy, stiff, and uncooperative, just to name a few!) and how to overcome obstacles. Next she will go over how to style your photoshoots by utilizing clothing, color, backgrounds, and props to really bring your vision to life. She will cover how to style shoots yourself (and even make your own props), how to help your clients style their kids themselves and how to make sure everything comes together even when you don’t know what they will wear ahead of time. You will then get to watch her style and photograph models of varying ages (toddler to 8 years old) with homemade props on colorful backdrops while getting a variety expressions and overcoming any obstacles that may arise. Attendees will leave with a handy go-to guide to keep in your camera bag.

Food photography is a wonderful way to stretch creatively while working without time constraints. In this boutique session you'll learn to style and photograph food using natural light and minimal props. Allison will start off with a short discussion about the basics of food photography and jump into a demonstration. You'll see how she creates a styled food photo as she talks through each step and explains all of her decisions, from choosing the background and props to the camera angles and more. You will learn how to choose a background for your food photography, how to style the frame for composition (including tips for using color), how to choose and use props, and how to use natural light effectively. There will also be the opportunity for you to style your own food using backgrounds, props, and food provided or to shoot the setups created by Allison during the demonstrations. It is helpful (but not required) if you have knowledge of shooting in manual mode. This program will take place inside so we can simulate the type of light you'll find in homes and restaurants.

Take out the overly posed, exhausting part of newborn sessions and learn how to have a simple, stress free, enjoyable (for both you AND the parents!) newborn session.
In this boutique attendees will use a newborn doll and learn how to photograph timeless newborn images focused on the baby's personality traits, his tiny size, and the love of his family. Alison will show you how to use simple props, neutral colors and an effective workflow to achieve quick and beautiful sessions. Alison will use a newborn doll to show you how to sooth babies, create a simple and easy workflow, gently pose the baby, and create natural and beautiful imagery. She will talk about parent posing, working with siblings and some of the challenges that come with photographing babies.

Please bring a 50mm or 35mm lens to practice some of the techniques.

Newborn photography doesn't have to be difficult! In this program, Eden will show you how to take your newborn photography to the next level while making your work easier. She will cover tools, techniques and a workflow that will help you improve your skills. Then you'll shoot with Eden as she demonstrates how she photographs newborns creatively while using a newborn doll and model parents. Along the way, you'll learn how to perfect straight-out-of-the-camera images by tweaking the available light (with a reflector, strobes or natural light).

Students should have a good understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Please bring a lens suitable for newborn photography lenses (either a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 24-70mm, and/or macro lens).

Join Tenley as she shares all of the tips, games, and tricks she's learned in her 10+ years of experience creating expressive portraits of kids of all ages and personalities. This demonstration class will start with a discussion to go over her go-to ideas for each age (hello toddlers and angsty teens!), personality (over-hyper, shy, stiff, and uncooperative, just to name a few!) and how to overcome obstacles. Next she will go over how to style your photoshoots by utilizing clothing, color, backgrounds, and props to really bring your vision to life. She will cover how to style shoots yourself (and even make your own props), how to help your clients style their kids themselves and how to make sure everything comes together even when you don’t know what they will wear ahead of time. You will then get to watch her style and photograph models of varying ages (toddler to 8 years old) with homemade props on colorful backdrops while getting a variety expressions and overcoming any obstacles that may arise.
