The world is a culturally rich and diverse place yet most of our portfolios reflect what we see in the mirror or the small communities in which we live. Karthika Gupta knows that while there is a sense of comfort in sticking to what we know best, stepping out of our comfort zone brings understanding and appreciation of the world around us in countless ways. In this shooting demonstration, Karthika will show you the world. Take a journey with her as she explores a lifestyle approach to travel photography and shows you how to incorporate the diversity of the world around you into your portfolio. Learn how to turn everyday moments in a new environment into a compelling lifestyle travel story.

During this shooting demonstration, Karthika will work with culturally diverse models and photograph them within the environment. This boutique will take place in the Dana Point Harbor, providing a rich landscape against which attendees can learn the art of focusing and shooting in a foreign environment while learning how to interact with clients of different cultural backgrounds.

BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: Confidence & Composition: The Art of Street Photography

Join Denise in an amazing boutique session that will immerse you world of street photography. Equal parts inspirational and practical, Denise will lead a discussion on the master street photographers and what makes their work great. She is digging into how composition, use of light, patience, and confidence are essential to successful street photography and how you can incorporate all of these elements into your own work. Denise will show you how to use street photography to create a story within a photo essay. She will talk about the gear that will help you create your own street photography masterpieces and everything you should do before setting out on the streets. Camera settings, lens choices, researching laws and customs, and how to approach strangers successfully are all on the agenda. Finally, go out together to the nearby marina and shops to capture a feel for the place and the people within it. Denise will be there with you to guide you to interesting locations and how she would approach them with her camera. You will get to see her in action using mindful artistic practices and work alongside her to create visual stories of the scene.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn camera settings and lens choices specific to street photography
- Experience why moving with your feet (vs changing lenses) is the way to go to catch fleeting moments
- Learn how to get in the mindset to "see" moments and places before you
- Learn how to shoot a stranger
- Learn composition techniques for street  
- Learn how to microcompose and how to include environment  to further deepen stories
-Gather the necessary “shots” and details required in order to create a photo essay
