BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: Black and White Portraits for Every Generation

Creating a successful black and white image is about so much more than just converting it in the post-processing stage. Light, shape, form, texture, tonal range, and countless other elements need to come together if you want to capture a beautiful black and white photograph. Join Dana in a lifestyle suite as she explores the artistic process of visualizing, photographing, and editing monochromatic portraits with three models from different generations. Free yourself artistically as she demonstrates ways you can add interest to your portraits by including movement, using specialty lenses, and more. You'll come out of the session with the ability to add depth to your portfolio with beautiful black and white images.
Attendees will have the opportunity to photograph each model by breaking-up into small shooting groups after Dana’s demonstration. Students are encouraged to bring both a portrait lens and a specialty/creative lens if available and should be comfortable shooting in manual mode.

From the first bites of solid food, to the first soccer games, so many of us start our photography journey because we wanted to capture the cute and memorable moments of our kids' lives. Looking back, these are the images that make us smile and say, "Awww." But what happens when you yearn for something more artistic, aiming for something higher? Learn to move from "awwww" to awe, as Natalie breaks down the components that make a photo sweet AND powerful. She will talk about how to bring the sense of awe into our own photos by making viewers feel our photos. From kids to clients, Natalie will show you how to take you work to the next level. At the end of the presentation, the group will shoot creatively with two young boys (ages 5 and 7). Attendees should have a strong grasp of photography basics and are encouraged to bring their own cameras.

Join Tenley as she shares all of the tips, games, and tricks she's learned in her 10+ years of experience creating expressive portraits of kids of all ages and personalities. This demonstration class will start with a discussion to go over her go-to ideas for each age (hello toddlers and angsty teens!), personality (over-hyper, shy, stiff, and uncooperative, just to name a few!) and how to overcome obstacles. Next she will go over how to style your photoshoots by utilizing clothing, color, backgrounds, and props to really bring your vision to life. She will cover how to style shoots yourself (and even make your own props), how to help your clients style their kids themselves and how to make sure everything comes together even when you don’t know what they will wear ahead of time. You will then get to watch her style and photograph models of varying ages (toddler to 8 years old) with homemade props on colorful backdrops while getting a variety expressions and overcoming any obstacles that may arise. Attendees will leave with a handy go-to guide to keep in your camera bag.

Do you love the beach? This boutique session will give you with a toolbox full of tips and tricks for shooting successfully on the beach. Join Marcie Reif and learn how to shoot in different light at the beach, what lenses to use for the look you are trying to achieve, and how to get creative with your subject and the beautiful landscape all around you. She will teach you how to preserve the landscape while properly exposing for your subject and the scene. She will also cover how to use all elements of the beach and how they can strengthen your images. Marcie will show you how to capture beauitful images of children at play, capturing both movement and connection.You'll do a mix of talking and shooting in small groups, and you can expect to shoot alongside Marcie as you work with children on the beach.

What if we photographed children just as they are, as the adventurous, curious, free spirits that so many of us wish we could be again. The stories of childhood are priceless and it’s our job to preserve them as authentically as possible. Join Melissa Haugen as she runs a carefree, hands-on, outdoor session with some adorable preschool and school-aged siblings. Whether playing in the water, flying kites, building in the sand, or climbing around a play structure, you will focus on capturing both the authentic moments of children at play and the connections they have with their siblings. Melissa will show you the shooting techniques she uses to capture great moments during a fast-paced session with kids. She'll teach you how she exposes quickly in a variety of lighting situations. She will share how she is able to quickly focus in a fast-paced session, and what settings she uses to increase the accuracy of shots so that she never misses a moment. You'll cover lens & perspective choices, and utilize framing, layering, & lines to to help create stronger imagery. Finally, Melissa will cover creative compositions and how to capture beautiful environmental portraits. Between shooting demonstrations and explanations, participants will be invited to shoot along with Melissa and practice the settings and perspectives she suggests as well as contribute their own ideas!

Attendees should have an understanding of the exposure triangle and be comfortable shooting in manual. Attendees should bring gear they are comfortable shooting with. Instructor will be demonstrating shooting with 15mm, 35mm and 85mm lenses.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn how to work in varied lighting situations based on the shoot location and which lenses lend themselves best to creating a strong environmental portrait
- Create beautiful imagery with proper gear choices and subject positioning

In this hands-on boutique attendees will explore the unique beauty of video. With both inspiring demonstrations and technical know-how, Sarah has created a boutique session that will have you excited to move beyond still photographs and create films for yourself and your clients!

The session will start with a focus on optimal camera settings. Learn how to employ the basic photographic concepts of composition and focus with the moving elements of stabilization, camera movements, and frame rates to create pleasing films. Sarah will detail the gear that she loves and everything you need to get started on your own moving memories journey. And then the fun of filming begins! Watch Sarah at work and then try what you have learned as you practice together. The world of video is exciting and you are going to be energized by all it has to offer you and your clients.

Studio photography doesn't have to be intimidating or expensive! Learn what tools you need to start your own simple studio and how to make timeless images anywhere. From portraits of your children to headshots or even stunning action shots of dancers or athletes, learn how to set up a studio and get the images you want! Kate will cover the basics of studio equipment, how to setup a small (and portable) studio, exposure, and more. Kate will also go over various lighting setups, showing you which are most suited for specific types of photography. Finally, attendees will get their action on and put it all together as you take some breathtaking portraits of dancers in action! BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: Expressive Kids

Join Tenley as she shares all of the tips, games, and tricks she's learned in her 10+ years of experience creating expressive portraits of kids of all ages and personalities. This demonstration class will start with a discussion to go over her go-to ideas for each age (hello toddlers and angsty teens!), personality (over-hyper, shy, stiff, and uncooperative, just to name a few!) and how to overcome obstacles. Next she will go over how to style your photoshoots by utilizing clothing, color, backgrounds, and props to really bring your vision to life. She will cover how to style shoots yourself (and even make your own props), how to help your clients style their kids themselves and how to make sure everything comes together even when you don’t know what they will wear ahead of time. You will then get to watch her style and photograph models of varying ages (toddler to 8 years old) with homemade props on colorful backdrops while getting a variety expressions and overcoming any obstacles that may arise. Attendees will leave with a handy go-to guide to keep in your camera bag.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn tricks, prompts and games to get kids to loosen up or give them a specific expression desired for the image
- Learn how to deal with children who are shy, stiff, hyper, or not wanting to cooperate
- Learn posing through movement and direction (vs. stagnant minute micromanaging) which creates a more natural looking image and subject
- Learn how to style your very own Expressive Kids shoot

BOUTIQUE PROGRAM: The Toolbox to Beach Photography

Do you love the beach? This boutique session will give you with a toolbox full of tips and tricks for shooting successfully on the beach. Join Marcie Reif and learn how to shoot in different light at the beach, what lenses to use for the look you are trying to achieve, and how to get creative with your subject and the beautiful landscape all around you. She will teach you how to preserve the landscape while properly exposing for your subject and the scene. She will also cover how to use all elements of the beach and how they can strengthen your images. Marcie will show you how to capture beauitful images of children at play, capturing both movement and connection.You'll do a mix of talking and shooting in small groups, and you can expect to shoot alongside Marcie as you work with children on the beach.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn how to shoot in different types of light on the beach
- Learn how to use the elements around you and where to place subjects for the strongest images
- Learn how to open your mind and be creative on the beach
- Utilize different lenses that will give your image a creative look
- Practice and discuss landscape photography as well as working with subjects on the beach
