Join Kristen Ryan and capture creative seascapes with filters, intentional camera setting choices, and perspective. You will begin with a discussion of basic settings for beach photography. Surveying the environment, you will consider how you can use foreground, shoreline, and perspective to add depth to seascapes. Kristen will then demonstrate ways to capture the entire dynamic range of the scene including using a graduated filter, multiple exposures or exposing for the best possible single exposure. She'll talk about the various shutter speed options for capturing the ocean and kind of image you will achieve with each. Finally, you'll see Kristen demonstrate the use of a neutral density filter to capture long exposures. Following the demonstration and discussion of these concepts, there will be time for questions, discussion, and student shooting. Those with tripods and filters can experiment with long exposures and those without can focus on composition and dialing-in the ideal exposure. It is recommended that students have experience shooting in manual mode. It is also recommended that highlight warnings are turned on in-camera and that students know how to turn on bracketing in camera. If bringing a neutral density filter, a Little Stopper (6 stops) or Big Stopper (10 stops) is recommended. Tripods and filters are recommended for trying the various techniques but are not required to attend the session. All attendees are welcome to observe and learn for later practice if they don’t have a tripod or filters accessible.
